Here at St. Ethelbert’s Catholic Primary School we aspire to promote Physical Education and Activity throughout the school year to inspire children to lead healthy and active lifestyles. We are proud to have inclusive and engaging activities, involving competitive sports that provide a wide range of opportunities for our pupils both in and out of school hours. Our close links with Thanet Passport help to provide pupils with an extensive range of competitions that help to build on their skills and confidence throughout the school year.
Leadership Club is run every Tuesday lunch time from 12.30 – 1.00pm by Miss Rees (PE Coordinator). A number of Year 5 and 6 pupils, who do not take part in any after school clubs, are invited by Miss Rees to attend the Club at the beginning of the academic year and their job is to take part in discussions and share their creative ideas about PE throughout the year. They also get the opportunity to help plan and lead extra sporting competitions held during each academic year.
So far, the Leadership Club have planned and helped lead an obstacle race competition for all classes in the school; helped organise Sports Day; come up with ideas about House Team competitions; made posters to promote competitions around the school; and discussed special prizes that could be won by the winning House Team.
Leadership Club is a great opportunity for those pupils who do not want to, or are unable to, attend the after-school clubs. It gives them a chance to share their creative ideas and promotes ‘pupil voice’.
